Tonge Station 10th-12th March
Only 5 units attended Tonge Station; it was probably the poor weather forecast that put
people off, for those of you that did not attend or have never been to
Tonge here is a little information about the site, it has hard standing
and we have never known anybody getting stuck on the grass, as you can
see on the photo's the site backs on to the Cloud cycle trail, which runs
from Worthington to Derby and was an old railway line, there are
numerous footpaths which cross it along its length, it is close to
Ashby-de-la-Zouch and Castle Donington racing circuit which also has a
large Sunday Morning market.
The skyline to the SW is dominated with the Breedon-on-Hill Church see below .
On Saturday we cycled 4 miles with our granddaughter to Kings Newton,
where we met The Gambles and the Beards for Lunch at the Packhorse Inn
which has an extensive menu from £3.95 cheap Eh!. A Leisurely cycle back,
the sun came out.
Sunday Morning arrived with a covering of snow , the coffee morning was held in the
stewards motorhome (a first for DDA?); we got Ted Our Chief camp Steward to make a Speech thank
you Ted, many Thanks to the few that turned up , the snow melted by
lunchtime and everybody drifted away during the afternoon.
See you soon
Carol & Malcolm Drew Stewards.
