Bonfire Meet ˜ Ukrainian Youth Centre
Hi! What a resounding success yet again, I don’t know how we can improve on this year’s meet. We had a 140 units booked meaning a capacity crowd.I’d like to take this chance to thanks members who stewarded units onto the site in a well organized fashion under really wet conditions.
Friday night consisted of one hours entertainment by Carlo the Clown for the children, followed by two 45 minute sessions by female vocalist Lucia Mattisse. The dance floor was full from start to finish with members enjoying a vast array of styles and era’s.
Saturday started with a 10 penny fair enjoyed by young and old alike followed by judging the Guy competition which was won by the Rose family. This was judged jointly by Mr. Alan Slater (NCR Chairman) and Mr. Barry Rook (NCR President and a Club Vice President) a thank you goes to them both as I did spring it on them. It was the best turn out of Guy’s for many a year, well done.
After the bonfire and fireworks the hall opened, hotdogs and mushy peas were waiting to warm everyone up. The entertainment consisted of pop trio, The System, what a night they provided, with lights, smoke effects and great vocals mixed with live music, superb.
During Friday and Saturday night raffle tickets were sold and the draw took place on Saturday night giving some great prizes. Also Saturday night, a 50 – 50 raffle was run in aid of D.D.A. Youth Section, raising £75 for the lucky winner and £75 for our Youth Section.
Saturday night was marred by having to say farewell to Mark, Sue, Maddie and Gracey Drew who were leaving Sunday to start a new life in Australia, we wish them well in their venture.
Sunday morning consisted of a coffee morning with table top sale, this raised £64 for charity. During this period Horace and Joan Gibson were presented with a certificate by myself, on behalf of Derbyshire D.A. to commemorate their 50 years of continuous membership. A very proud moment for me and a pleasure to do.
I would like to thank our Committee without who’s help and support this meet could never happen, fellow members from both Derbyshire D.A. and visiting D.A’s who helped moving tables etc., Dot and Joan for raising £400 by running a raffle, Tombola and a 10 penny fair. There are really too many thank-you’s to mention, yet the Firework, Bonfire, Kitchen, Hall, Pegging out, Stewarding Teams all deserve a thank you and mention. Thank you all!!!!!!
For the first time we have had a trade stand selling mainly lighting and children’s novelties. Very popular with members who are replacing bulbs with LED lights in their units. We look forward to seeing them out again with us. Mike and Jan Simpkin can be reached at brightideasleisure@hotmail.com, also they are opening a new website offering an on-line service giving great value for money. (http://brightideasleisure.com)
We hope everyone had a good weekend and hope they will visit us again in the future.
The last thanks go to the campers who have supported us at this our biggest meet of the year making all of the hard work really worthwhile.
Anyone wishing to go on our New Year meet should contact Janet Sims our Booking Officer as numbers are limited.
